Australia - A Well-Developed Training Market but Appearances can be Deceptive

  • Australia is a well-developed learning market. 100% of Australian learners have done some form of training over the past 12 months with training predominantly driven by the employer and taking place in office hours. A mature market, but evidence it is stagnating in traditional quarters.
  • Technical skills and compliance training remain the most popular form of training ahead of management training with the country leading the way in Asia in e-learning adoption. This is a similar to the picture in Europe.
  • There is also a high number of Australian learners receive blended learning with mobile learning, via tablets. Training via smart phones, however, is yet to take off.
  • Almost 40% of all training is also government-funded, and with much of this blended and technology enabled learning provision coming from business schools, institutes and associations who have leveraged technology and use well-trodden distance learning methods. Not so in many traditional corporate training providers.
  • Looking at the corporate training market, traditional providers appear to be behind these other institutions, and many have limited offers in terms of technology enabled solutions either as standalone or blended solutions.
  • This makes Australia a very interesting market in terms of training provision dynamics, and a huge opportunity for corporate training specialists to once again seize the initiative and capitalise on newer forms of learning and development content and provision.
